DELHI” S G.B ROAD - A DARK SITE FOR WOMEN.

G.B ROAD - Hardly you have not heard this name if you belong from Delhi or old Delhi. you have discussed this name for your friends  to feel him/ her inferior. You have seen people use GB road as an abusive word for others mothers or sisters.

Well I never visit the GB Road but yeah I have used this word mostly in my school days. But I never think that GB Road is nothing but a black hole for thousands of sex workers or Prostitutes. Those sex workers who sold their body for money but it is not all true.

In the Mughal era, prostitution was seemed a high-class work  . The people intriguing in this profession are considered a great Writer, dancer or poet ..known famously tawaifs in north India and called Nutch girls by the Britishers. When The Mughals were replacing their capital from Agra to Delhi - that's called Shahjahanabad ,At that time five Red - light areas came into existence in Delhi. After the revolt of 1857, Britishers shut down these brothels and Transferred them on the road between Ajmeri gate and Lahori gate . The name of this red light area - GB Road - is upon the name of the founder of this prominent road GARSTIN BASTION ROAD. In 1966 ,GB Road was renamed as Swami Shradhanand Marg…but eventually ,for the people ,GB road is only GB road.

On the first walk at day time on this Road, you will find it's an ordinary sadak or road like any other commercial roads of Delhi - busy and chaotic. There are many shops which are famous for their hardware parts of electrical and machinery Objects .There is an ATM booth , lots of food stalls, tea shops , a few Dhabas  and juice shops on the way to GB ROAD. it is a two lane road ..one side with a long or yellowish wall with Parallelly free parking services for rickshaw pullers , shop sellers  Bikes and Chota Hathi Tempo while the other lane is stuck with the multistoried and very old Buildings running commercial outlets with brothels. These structures are very congested with narrow lanes among them.

 The brothels are normally multi-storied in a continuous lane in which the Ground floors are rented to shopkeepers while other floors are accommodations of sex Workers .there are total 96 brothels  GB road with each one is specified with a distinct numbers where more than 2500 women are working as a Prostitute. all the brothels were set up into very old and dilapidated floors with shake up  tin walls above the shabby balconies .Balconies with complex designed balustrades and windows could be seen along the road. beside the balcony ..inside the brothel you will notice a row of hanging clothes with florid and garish colour. you would hardly seen any light flashing inside the balcony but you will absolutely see women or girls [ don't matter in which category the fall ] sex workers cuddling with balconies and waving hand outside the holes to take attention of the males strangers to hang out . 

Undoubtedly ,The Women Engaged in the work of prostitution in our society always seem as an inferior person ....why ?. because the women are selling their bodies to the customers who change each and every night. But who are these customers ? not  from other  any another planet , among us .it is the Embarrassing for the Country kind of the India which is very rich in the dimension of culturally and ethically where in spite of being Organize d Prostitution is illegal ,still girls below 15 years are ceded to brothels for the sex worker . the age in which girls start to know their body , they become mothers of unplanned and unwanted kids.
