ABOUT THE CHIEF JUSTICE OF INDIA - U.U.LALIT
On 10 August ,justice U.U Lalit has been appointed as a chief justice of India after the president Draupadi murmu signed on his appointment order . Justice U.U Lalit will be 49th chief justice of India (CJI). the present chief justice of India - N. V Ramana had personally recommended to the Justice U.U Lalit as a new CJI of the India and his successor . Justice U.U Lalit is the only senior judge in the supreme court of India after N.V Ramana . justice Lalit is the second CJI who raised as a Judge of the supreme court from the bar after chief justice S.M SIKRI . justice U.U Lalit will accept his tenure as a CJI on 27th august while N.V Ramana stop working on 26 august . justice Lalit will be able to serve as a CJI only for less than 3 months since he retires on 8 November at the age of 65.[as per the Indian constitution ]
Justice U.U Lalit was born on 9th November ,1957 in the Solapur District in Maharashtra. the complete name of justice Lalit is Uday Umesh Lalit . he had started his profession as an advocate in June ,1983.he had practiced advocacy till December,1985 in Mumbai High court before started advocating in Delhi ,1986.In April ,2004 he had been nominated for senior designated by the Supreme Court. .justice Lalit has been a member of supreme court of Indian legal services committee . and also served as a special public prosecutor for CBI.
In his tenure , justice U.U Lalit has been part of many landmark judgements .
- he was the part of that constitution bench who had declared the Triple Talaq unconstitutional in August,2017.
- he had been appointed as a special public prosecutor for 2G spectrum allocation.
- justice Lalit was the part of 4 judge bench who sentenced the punishment of 4 months in prison to fugitive Vijay Malaya .
In January 2019 ,justice Lalit had isolated himself from the judgement of the Hindu idol Ram birth place and babri Masjid land dispute .chief justice of India N.V Ramana has congratulated justice U.U Lalit being appointed the next chief justice of India(CJI).
