WHAT IS BRICS 

BRICS is an intercontinental group of the world's five fastest-growing economies that came into existence in the shadow of the financial crisis of 2008. The chief purpose of this group is the restoration of world order from the Unipolarity of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA to a multipolar world and provide an alternative forum to the global south.

 the concept of BRIC [ Brazil, Russia, India, and China] was introduced by the British Economist Jim O'Neill in the early 2000s who unpredicted the formation of a global south bloc led by the four fastest developing nations to encounter the economic hegemony of the global west bloc.

BRIC was the result of a long series of meetings held by foreign ministers ,National security advisers and other officials of BRIC nations. The first official BRIC summit was held in Yekaterinburg ,Russia on 16 June 2009 which was attended by the former PM of India Dr. Manmohan Singh. In 2010, The foreign ministerial meeting of BRIC nations in NEW YORK announced the Inclusion of South Africa as a new member state of BRIC and it was renamed as BRICS - Coalition of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, To date,14 BRICS summits have been organized and 15th BRICS summit is organizing by south Africa 22 august to 24 august ,2023 in Johannesburg.

BRICS group is unique and very distinct in itself as it depicts 25% of total land, 42% of the world population, and 25 % of Global GDP with a sharing of 17% in global trade. It is Noticeable that BRICS is not a military organization like NATO conveys the idea of cohesion and cooperative security Alliance among the member countries However BRICS has its headquarters situated in Shanghai, China for the administration or documentation work. There are many regions of partnership recognized among the BRICS members like Economy and Finance, Health, Science, Research And Development, security, and Trade. India has already Hosted the BRICS Summit 2012,2016 and 2021. In 2021, India has to host the BRICS summit 2021 in virtual mode due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. The establishment of New development bank and contingent reserve arrangement are some of the ambitious project of BRICS. 

XV BRICS SUMMIT 

 Recently, South Africa hosted the 15th BRICS summit in Johannesburg scheduled from 22 Aug to 24 Aug 2023 which was attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President XI Jinping, Brazilian Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Captioned by South African president Cyril Ramaphosa. besides these member Leaders, delegates of the more than 67 countries from the African continent and Global South bloc have also attended the summit. Russian President Vladimir Putin has not attended this summit physically since the ICC [International Criminal Court ] discharged an arrest warrant against the Russian president in the wake of war crimes and humanitarian Genocide in the RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR, if they visit South Africa for the Summit, then the South Africa officials have to force to arrest the president Putin. [ SF is a member of ICC], the theme of the 15th BRICS Summit is - BRICS AND AFRICA PARTNERSHIP FOR MUTUALLTY ACCELERATED GROWTH, SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND INCLUSIVE MULTILATERLISM. 

The BRICS summit of 2023 will be remembered for the concerns rumored about the expansion. One of the Main agenda of the Summit was group expansion [ till now 23 countries have already applied for membership ] and inviting more Countries to make the BRICS more powerful in the aspect of economically and geopolitically. on the last day of the BRICS Summit, President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa officially called the six countries to grant the BRICS membership. These countries are ARGENTINA, IRAN, THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, SAUDI ARABIA, ETHOPIA, AND EGYPT. the inclusion of these countries will assure more representation to the middle east , African and Latin America  in the cluster of Developing nations. this membership will fully execute from the 1st of January,2023.
